Quality monitoring standards and methods for electrode paste

The quality monitoring of electrode paste is very important because it directly affects the operating efficiency of the submerged arc furnace and the service life of the electrodes. The following are some standards and methods for monitoring the quality of electrode paste:

Quality monitoring standards:
Moisture content: The moisture content in the electrode paste should be controlled within a lower range, as excessive moisture can increase the viscosity of the electrode paste, affecting its processing and sintering performance.

Ash content: The lower the ash content of the electrode paste, the higher its purity. High purity electrode paste can conduct electricity better and reduce the consumption rate of electrodes.

Volatile fraction: Volatile fraction refers to the mass fraction of volatile substances in electrode paste at a certain temperature. Excessive volatile matter may cause the electrode paste to produce bubbles during the sintering process, affecting the quality of the electrode paste.

Density and hardness: The density and hardness of electrode paste need to be moderate for easy processing and use. Low density may cause the electrode paste to loosen during use, while high hardness may make it difficult to form the electrode paste.

Quality monitoring methods:
Raw material inspection: Inspect the raw materials of electrode paste, including the purity and particle size distribution of graphite powder, as well as the performance of additives.

Process control: In the production process of electrode paste, strict monitoring is carried out for each step, such as kneading time, temperature, pressure, etc., to ensure its uniformity and stability.

Sample testing: Extract samples from the production line for laboratory testing, including measuring their physical and chemical properties such as moisture, ash, and volatile matter.

On site evaluation: Evaluate the performance of electrode paste during actual use, such as consumption rate, conductivity, mechanical strength, etc.

Data analysis: Collect and analyze quality monitoring data, establish quality control charts and statistical process control (SPC) to achieve continuous quality improvement.

By implementing the above standards and methods, the quality of electrode paste can be effectively monitored to ensure its stable application in mining thermal power furnaces.
